EstiMate uses a custom-written,
software based protection system. While it is no fun to have
to contact
us for a new security key, the fact that EstiMate is relatively
well-protected offers you several very serious benefits.
- You can receive technical support as a registered
user
- When our system changes - which we do periodically in
case it has been cracked "in the wild" - you can be assured
that your
copy will work
- Most importantly, our revenue stream is protected, insuring
that we will be around in the future to provide the software
and services you have come to expect.

Actually, it only seems that way. There are only a few circumstances
where you will need to get a new unlock key. They are as
follows:
- At the end of your 60-day exploratory period, when you
are ready to choose your plugins and purchase your software,
you
will need to get a permanent key to unlock those you have
chosen.
- When you purchase new plugins, you will need to get a
new permanent key including the new plugins you have purchased.
- If you install EstiMate on multiple computers and wish
to run them on those machines, you will need to purchase
additional
licenses which require their own individual unlock codes.
- Finally, if you re-install Windows, or a new hard drive,
your permanent key will change and you will need to contact
us for
a new one. Fortunately, in this circumstance, EstiMate (if
installed from your original CD) will run for a 60-day
trial period again
and you will not be "dead in the water" if you need a key
on the weekend.
